At Muggenthaler Ästhetik, we now offer the option of nitrous oxide anesthesia. With this gentle sedation, we will be able to carry out all botulinum toxin treatments, filler treatments, peelings, laser treatments and surgical procedures with significantly less discomfort.
What is nitrous oxide?
Laughing gas is particularly well known in dentistry, where it has been used successfully for decades to treat anxiety patients. Nitrous oxide is an invisible, odorless gas that is absorbed very quickly by the body but is not processed by the metabolism, so that no nitrous oxide remains in the body after the treatment.
What is the effect of nitrous oxide?
The nitrous oxide gives the patient a feeling of lightness and relaxation. This makes the treatment much more pleasant and less painful. The effect sets in very quickly and subsides immediately. The patient can leave the practice independently and without restriction immediately after treatment.
The big advantage: nitrous oxide anesthesia is a safe method and very easy to control. Thanks to the rapid onset and rapid wearing off of the effect, the anesthesia can also be adapted to the individual needs of the patient during treatment.
Do I need special training for nitrous oxide sedation?
In contrast to general anesthesia, sedation with nitrous oxide does not require an anesthesiologist. However, sound training and further education is still crucial for safe and successful treatment. Together with my team, we are therefore constantly training in the field of anesthesia.
How exactly does nitrous oxide sedation work?
The nitrous oxide is supplied through a silicone nose mask that is connected to the nitrous oxide device. The patient can breathe in and out normally through the mask. After an initial supply of oxygen, the concentration of nitrous oxide is then slowly increased until the patient feels relaxed and comfortable. During the entire treatment, the pulse and oxygen saturation are monitored with a special device. The effect wears off after approx. 5-10 minutes following the end of the nitrous oxide supply. The patient can then leave the practice without any restrictions.
Are there side effects and contraindications?
There are only a few side effects or contraindications. In rare cases, it may cause discomfort and dizziness. In the case of a pneumothorax, for example, nitrous oxide must not be used. Pregnant women are also excluded from nitrous oxide sedation.
