The “magic triangle” between the eyebrows and chin plays a major role in communication between people. A receding or protruding chin as well as a double chin can appear inharmonious, which is often a great burden for those affected. With chin correction, there are many ways to bring the face back into a harmonious balance.

Dr. Muggenthaler has special knowledge of skeletal disorders of facial harmony: During his training as a maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Muggenthaler focused on harmony-improving operations on the cranial skeleton. Orthodontic corrections were and are an important focus of his work. Dr. Muggenthaler consistently applies the valuable knowledge gained over the years for harmony, good proportions and beauty in facial analysis.
Depending on its shape, the chin emphasizes the femininity or masculinity of a face. Most people consider a chin to be harmonious if it is about as far forward in profile as the base of the bridge of the nose – slightly less for women and slightly further for men.
Viewed from the front, the “golden ratio” plays a decisive role. The distance between the center of the lips and the chin should be about two thirds of the distance between the center of the lips and the base of the nose. Of course, the shape of the chin in relation to the neighboring regions is also important. An accentuated chin gives the neck profile, while a receding chin has the opposite effect. The relationship to the shape and size of the nose is also important. A receding chin can make the nose appear too large – and vice versa.
For profile corrections, it is crucial to analyze the appearance individually, define a clear goal and select the implant shape and size accordingly. To do this, the bony facial structures, including the position of the jaw, must be examined in detail using X-ray images. If the teeth are also misaligned, we recommend combined surgical and orthodontic treatment.
Chin corrections are performed in twilight sleep or under general anesthesia. Small incisions are made inside the mouth in the fold of the upper or lower lip so that the chin or cheekbone can be exposed. This makes it easy to insert the implants. We prefer Goretex implants for the build-up, which are optimally tolerated and are perceived as completely natural after healing. The wounds are closed with absorbable sutures, which make subsequent suture removal unnecessary. The operation does not result in any externally visible scars. Bandages can be completely dispensed with.
Immediately after the procedure, an intensive cooling treatment is carried out to keep swelling and discoloration to a minimum. No pain is to be expected. The stay in the clinic lasts a few hours or, if desired, one night. In the week following the operation, you should avoid strenuous activities and excessive heat, as this delays the complete reduction of swelling. As an alternative to surgical profile correction with Goretex implants, augmentation with hyaluronic acid is also possible. A special hyaluronic acid preparation is available for this purpose, which can be injected into the desired areas with little effort. The shelf life is about 18 months.

Three months ago, Dr. Muggenthaler performed a facelift on me. Beforehand, the team had great difficulty allaying my fears about twilight sleep. These turned out to be completely unfounded. I felt totally at ease before, during and after the procedure. I was "mothered" all round. Dr. Muggenthaler was always there for me. He helped with all small needs and worries, including recommendations for excursions and restaurants. Dr. Muggenthaler even came to the hotel for a follow-up check. Read more

He is the best doctor. He was able to help me so that the dark spots under my eyes were gone. Before that I had been to other doctors who always disappointed me and I no longer had any hope. The same thing happened with acne. He recommended very good products to me. I thank Him for everything. Read more

The aim of every surgical chin correction is to achieve an optimal balance between good looks and naturalness.
Surgically, by relocating the bony chin (osteoplasty) or inserting an implant made of silicone, Goretex or hydroxalappatite. Minimally invasive through padding with hyaluronic acid injections or injections with other materials.
Surgical genioplasty can result in scars in the mouth or on the outer skin, but infections or nerve injuries with persistent loss of sensation in the lip are also possible. Asymmetries and noticeable unevenness can also occur. In rare cases, infections can also occur after minimally invasive corrections.
Permanent results are possible after osteoplasty. After injection treatment with hyaluronic acid, the results will rarely last longer than 12 months. We do not carry out injections with longer-lasting fillers, as the risks would be much greater.
This is also possible. However, this always requires a displacement of the bony chin. The effort and risks involved are usually greater than with chin augmentation.
This is possible to a certain extent. However, if there is significant sagging or fatty tissue accumulation in the neck, a neck lift is more effective. However, both methods can also be combined.
