20 Dec We are left with optimism – a brief review of the year
As always, as the year draws to a close, it’s time for a year in review. After all, it is human nature to focus on the positive things in life. At least for optimists like me. I would therefore like to highlight the positive events this year and pass on a few words of hope to you.
The fact is, we are in the midst of a crisis. A crisis that restricts us all and demands enormous commitment from many. At this point, I am thinking in particular of the medical professionals and everyone else who are doing their best every day to contain the coronavirus pandemic.
For me personally, this year has shown once again that despite contact restrictions, social interaction is needed right now. This applies both to overcoming crises and to our daily work. Because not only the people on the corona front, but each and every one of us can now make an important contribution to the common good: by adhering to the prescribed regulations and, despite everything, looking to the future with an open mind, curiosity and a dose of empathy.
Learning with and from each other
Basically, it always helps to walk through the world with an open mind and an alert spirit, to gather new impressions, learn from each other and pass on your own knowledge. And even if physical congresses, workshops and the like cannot take place, the newly discovered possibilities of virtual meetings for congresses and training courses open up great opportunities for even easier and more direct further training.
A successful example of this was the 33rd annual conference of the GÄCD (Gesellschaft für Ästhetische Chirurgie Deutschland e.V.). As President, I had the honor of initiating and coordinating this purely virtual event. Together with my team at the GÄCD, we have succeeded in putting together a highly qualified faculty that guarantees an exchange of knowledge at the highest level. Under the motto “Success through diversity”, this year’s annual conference of the GÄCD dealt with all core and peripheral areas of aesthetic surgery and aesthetic medicine from the fields of general surgery, dermatology, gynecology, ENT, maxillofacial surgery, ophthalmology, plastic surgery and intimate surgery.
Especially in this turbulent year, it fills me with pride and joy that we have been able to attract so many internationally renowned experts for workshops and lectures.
Even if we have almost forgotten it – there was also a time without corona in 2020. For example, in January, when I attended the IMCAS, the largest international conference for aesthetic medicine, in Paris. Once again, I was overwhelmed by this outstanding event. Together with my colleagues from the International Peeling Society, I was able to organize my own presentation session on the subject of peelings. I also have fond memories of the subsequent celebration with my wife and many esteemed colleagues.

Time for a thank you
Of course, major trips were not on the cards in 2020. Nevertheless, my team and I were constantly on the move. For example, by swimming in the Rhine or in a figurative sense through various internal training courses. I could list many more highlights and wonderful events, because despite all the circumstances, every single day had its moments of happiness. Not least, of course, thanks to the great support of my family and my valued employees.
This makes work particularly enjoyable: further training followed by a swim in the Rhine
Last but not least, I would also like to thank all our patients and customers for their great trust.
I wish you all a relaxing and wonderful Christmas season. Stay healthy and above all optimistic.
