Stain alarm? How to get rid of pigment spots.

Pigment spots are a big issue, especially now in summer. The main cause of unwanted stains is UV exposure. They mainly occur in areas that are more exposed to the sun, such as the face, décolleté, arms and hands. The older we get, the more dark skin spots we develop. This is why they are often referred to as age spots.

Prevent pigment spots

Especially for sensitive skin, a high level of sun protection is essential to prevent pigmentation spots. Unfortunately, many people start too late. Excessive sun exposure in youth usually takes its toll with increasing age. I therefore recommend that my patients use a day cream with a sun protection factor or daily UV protection from ZO® Skin Health.

Treatment of pigment spots

In most cases, pigment spots or melasma are harmless from a medical point of view. Nevertheless, I recommend a regular check-up (skin screening) with a doctor. If you want to do something about unwanted pigmentation from an aesthetic point of view, there are various treatments and therapies available:

Brightening creams & peelings

So-called brightening creams can help to lighten pigmentation spots and prevent pigmentation disorders. Ingredients such as retinol, skin brighteners, vitamin C and antioxidants are released to brighten and smooth the complexion. This improves the overall appearance of the skin (structure and stability). Brightening therapy should always be supervised by a specialist doctor or skin specialist.

Treatment with Lumenis® IPL photorejuvenation

With IPL photorejuvenation, we achieve remarkable results in the treatment of hyperpigmentation. This treatment stimulates the production of collagen and elastin fibers and irregularities in the skin can be gently and effectively eliminated. Depending on the extent of the pigmentation, we recommend 2-6 treatments at intervals of 2-4 weeks.
