02 May Neck rejuvenation and neck lift: the top treatments from non-invasive to surgical
The true age can often be recognized by the neck. This is partly due to the condition of the skin and the structure of the subcutaneous fatty tissue, but also because skin care is often neglected. But how does the neck stay young and beautiful for a long time? And which neck lifting and rejuvenation methods promise good results? I’ll tell you in this article.
The neck contributes a great deal to the overall aesthetic appearance of the face. It should be wrinkle-free, smooth and as inconspicuous as possible. With increasing age, however, the skin loses elasticity and wrinkles and sagging skin areas develop. These signs of ageing appear even faster in the neck area than on the face, for example.
The neck check:
The criteria for an esthetically perfect neck are varied and complex. To better determine the aesthetic appearance of the neck, I developed the so-called Neck-Check over 10 years ago. This describes the anatomical proportions and characteristics of superficial or deeper structures of the neck. The neck check makes it easier for the surgeon to choose the appropriate corrective measures and methods.

Depending on the desired treatment goal and intensity, we can use different methods for neck rejuvenation – from non-invasive to surgical:
- Skin care and retinol treatment
- HydraFacial
- Laser treatment
- Ultrasound
- Chenic peelings
- Surgical neck lift (facelift)
In the following, I will take a closer look at the various methods of neck lifting and rejuvenation, in ascending order of treatment intensity:
Step 1: Skin care and retinol treatment
non-invasive
Most people are very conscientious about their daily facial care. However, the neck often falls by the wayside. And this despite the fact that the neck area betrays age particularly quickly. This is because the skin on the neck is thinner and has less subcutaneous fatty tissue than on the face. In addition, the collagen fibers are less dense, which becomes noticeable with increasing age through a loss of tension.
Skin ageing starts at a young age. It is therefore important to ensure an optimal skin care routine at an early stage. As a skin specialist, I recommend a balanced cocktail of antioxidants such as vitamins C and E, retinol and deanol, regenerating active ingredients such as panthenol and moisturizers such as hyaluronic acid and high-quality oils.
ZO® Skin Health products offer perfectly coordinated treatment programs ranging from basic care to highly potent active ingredient concentrates for skin rejuvenation and increased skin health.
At MUGGENTHALER ÄSTHETIK we analyze your personal skin type and create an individual skin care program for you to use at home.
The retinol-deanol treatment for neck rejuvenation
The combination of retinol and deanol is particularly noteworthy. Retinol is able to reduce wrinkles, stimulate the production of collagen and elastin and protect against free radicals. The active ingredient deanol directly tightens the muscle fibers and also has an antioxidant effect. For optimal results, I recommend a retinol-deanol cure over a longer period of time (3-6 months).
The concentration of retinol required by the skin depends on the skin type, skin condition and retinol tolerance. Comprehensive professional advice is highly recommended. Our team will be happy to assist you.

HydraFacial for skin rejuvenation
In connection with the non-invasive applications, I would of course also like to mention the HydraFacial . This innovative and holistic treatment is ideal for preventing signs of ageing on the face, neck and décolleté. With regular use, skin health can be steadily improved.
Stage 2: Laser M22 and ultrasound
minimally invasive
Minimally invasive methods are becoming increasingly popular. The aim is to achieve maximum effect in skin optimization with as little effort or downtime as possible. For the rejuvenation of the neck area, laser and ultrasound treatment should be mentioned.
The laser treatment for skin optimization on the neck
With the Lumenis® M22, we achieve remarkable improvements in various skin problems such as pigmentation spots, sun damage, birthmarks and the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. The laser treatment only takes about 15-30 minutes and does not involve any downtime. There may be slight swelling and redness immediately after the treatment. The swelling usually subsides after a few hours. Redness the next day or over the following days. For skin optimization on the neck, we recommend approx. 2-6 treatments at intervals of 2-4 weeks.
Neck lift with ultrasound (Ultraskin)
Neck lift without downtime? Ultraskin makes it possible. Ultrasound is used to heat the connective tissue at a defined depth below the skin surface. This causes tissue tightening and the formation of new collagen and elastin. The tightening effect is achieved over a period of three to four months. Ultrasound treatment is a gentle alternative to a surgical lift, especially for patients with mild to moderate tissue sagging – without any downtime or side effects.

Stage 3: Peelings for neck lifting and rejuvenation
minimally invasive
Chemical peeling offers a wide variety of treatment options thanks to the different intensities. For skin rejuvenation on the neck, I mainly use medium-depth peelings from Skintech (e.g. TCA peeling) in combination with a light phenol solution. The special feature of a TCA/phenol peel is the renewal of collagen and elastic fibers in the deeper layers of the skin. This visibly tightens the skin, smoothes fine wrinkles and corrects skin pigmentation.
In order to achieve a lasting good result, an individual treatment plan tailored to the patient is necessary. The treating physician can choose the most suitable procedure from the various chemical peelings or combine different peeling procedures as required.
Stage 4: The surgical neck lift
Surgical
From around the age of 50, many people experience a clearly visible loss of shape or a lack of demarcation between the face and neck. If the neck and lower chin area have excess fatty tissue, severe wrinkles can also form in the neck region. There is also often talk of the so-called “turkey neck”. A facelift or neck lift provides a remedy by restoring the harmonious overall appearance of the face and neck and improving the definition of the lower jawline.
Intensive dialog and preparation
I consider the consensus between doctor and patient to be essential for a facelift. In one (or more) open and confidential consultation(s), the wishes and goals, the surgical methods, the possibilities and limitations, as well as possible risks and complications and their prevention, limitation or elimination are discussed.
In the vast majority of cases, a neck lift goes hand in hand with a facelift. We combine minimally invasive techniques with particularly effective surgical procedures. Thanks to our gentle technique, all lifts can be performed under local anesthesia and twilight sleep. This eliminates the need for stressful anesthesia. Patients then spend one or two nights in the clinic.
It’s the combination that makes the difference!
A decisive success factor in neck rejuvenation is the choice of the right treatment method or combination thereof. Minimally invasive procedures are still very much in vogue thanks to the short downtime. However, the so-called “gentle” methods also have their limits – especially in the case of severe tissue sagging at an advanced age. In this case, surgical procedures such as a facelift are still unbeatable in terms of rejuvenation effect and durability.
But as is so often the case in aesthetic medicine, it’s the combination that makes the difference.
