In times of selfies and Instagram, voluminous lips are more in demand than ever. But it’s not just Kylie Jenner and co. who are leading the way, lip enhancement has also been experiencing a real boom in this country for years.
Lips have always been a central theme in the history of beauty. It is therefore not surprising that lip injections are one of the six most popular aesthetic procedures. Lip enhancement is also part of our daily practice in Basel.
Lip injections? Yes, but of course it should be.
The days of inflatable lips are long gone and the desire for plumper lips has become socially acceptable. Today, however, a natural look is in demand. More volume yes, but natural and to suit the face.
In addition to optimal volume, the right curve, the harmonious proportions of the upper and lower lip and the interplay of the contours are decisive for the attractiveness of the lips.
Lips like…
Younger patients in particular like to show me a photo of a famous role model with particularly beautiful lips. For me, this is understandable and absolutely fine. As an experienced specialist, however, I also know that not every lip suits every face and not every wish will lead to the optimal result.
This makes it all the more important to analyze the patient’s condition and to be transparent and honest about possible deviations from the “lip model”.
Lip injections with hyaluronic acid filler
There are various methods of lip injections, which I will not go into in detail here. The most important and today almost exclusively used method is injection with hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid has virtually revolutionized lip enhancement. It can restore lost volume, sculpt the shape of the lips, plump up fine lines and give the lips the moisture they need.
The advantages of hyaluronic fillers
Very good compatibility
Hyaluronic acid is produced synthetically and is extremely well accepted by the body. Allergic reactions are therefore excluded.
Gentle treatment
The hyaluronic acid we use (Restylane from Galderma) contains a painkiller, making the treatment particularly gentle. Those who wish to be almost completely pain-free are given an anesthetic cream half an hour before the treatment.
Versatile in application
Galderma fillers are available in various consistencies. Depending on requirements, a firm filler can be used to shape the lip border and a soft filler can be used to build up the volume. With a thin consistency, vertical pleats can also be corrected. We can also restore the redness and suppleness of the lips with a so-called skin booster filler.
Durability
The result of lip correction with hyaluron lasts approx. 6-12 months.
After the treatment
Immediately after lip injections, swelling may occur, which usually subsides within 24 to 48 hours. If necessary, the treated area can be cooled. Steam baths and saunas should be avoided for 1-2 days. If desired, a follow-up appointment can be arranged after 2 weeks.
In principle, lip injections are very safe and harmless. The prerequisites are, of course, high-quality fillers and the experience and expertise of the treating doctor.
