Who is the phenol peeling suitable for?

Phenol peeling is an option if the skin has suffered a considerable loss of function due to age-related or external factors. This usually manifests itself in deep wrinkles, pigment changes and loss of skin elasticity. Very good results can also be achieved with cornification disorders (precancerous lesions), pigment spots and (acne) scars. However, if the sole aim is to treat scars, laser treatment or medical needling is preferable to phenol peeling.

How long does a phenol peeling treatment take?

At least 6 weeks before the peeling, a systematic skin conditioning with retinoids and other active ingredients is carried out, which you can do at home under medical supervision. The actual peeling takes about 90 minutes. The subsequent hospital stay is 1 to 7 nights.

Is there any downtime after the Phenol Peel?

Yes, a downtime of at least 2 weeks must be expected. Although the skin is still red, it can be concealed with make-up. After 6 to 8 weeks, most of the redness has completely disappeared.

What needs to be considered after phenol peeling?

Can the Phenol Peel be performed on an outpatient basis?

In our clinic, a phenol peel always involves at least one night in the clinic. Medical care is an absolute must on the first night. As a rule, however, patients stay with us for up to 8 days.

In which cases should phenol peeling not be carried out?

The following contraindications exist for phenol peeling:

• Herpes infections
• Active skin rash
• Restrictions on heart, liver or kidney function
• Diabetes
• Pregnancy
• Dark skin types

Is phenol peeling painful?

The treatment itself is not painful thanks to local anesthesia and mild sedatives. However, pain may occur in the first 4 hours after treatment, requiring stronger painkillers. Special cooling devices also help to relieve pain. After 24 hours there is usually no significant pain.

Can complications or side effects occur?

Phenol peeling is a strong peeling application that should only be carried out by experienced doctors in order to rule out complications as far as possible. The correct pre- and post-treatment of the skin plays a key role here. In rare cases, however, scars may occur that require appropriate aftercare. Longer-lasting redness and light or dark pigment changes are also possible, but can usually be treated well.

Can the neck also be rejuvenated with a phenol peel?

No, the phenol peeling can only be used on the face. Other treatments such as radiofrequency needling or the ^LaseMDTM treatment are suitable for skin rejuvenation on the neck or décolleté. A neck lift can also be performed as part of a surgical facelift.
