17 May At what age does a facelift make sense?
Whereas in the past it was mainly older women who visited a cosmetic surgeon, today it is increasingly young women and men who want to optimize their appearance or maintain their youthful attractiveness. But what exactly are “young” patients? At what age is an operation such as a facelift justified and which methods complement the surgical lift?
Facelift for younger patients – is there a minimum age?
In principle, aesthetic procedures are only performed in our practice on patients of legal age. The only exception is ear correction, which can be performed in childhood with parental consent.
When and to what extent the facelift is performed must be decided on an individual basis. In general, however, a facelift is an option if the skin elasticity has decreased significantly and the facial areas have sagged accordingly. The aim is to restore previous proportions while preserving the natural facial expression. Depending on the type of face and individual ageing, a facelift is indicated from the age of 40 to 45 at the earliest. Most of our facelift patients are between 45 and 65 years old.
Facelift alternative for younger patients
Before the age of 40, tissue sagging is not yet so pronounced that surgery is necessary. Nevertheless, many younger patients feel disturbed by signs of ageing such as expression lines, volume deficits or a moderate loss of elasticity. Minimally invasive treatment methods offer a good alternative in this case. In our practice, we mainly rely on safe and proven methods such as
Wrinkle treatment with botulinum toxin
Botulinum toxin can be used to specifically weaken mimic muscles and thus eliminate certain unwanted wrinkles.
Wrinkle injection with filler
Hyaluronic acid fillers in various viscosities can be used to compensate for age-related volume loss and plump up wrinkles.
Radio frequency needling
The targeted development of heat in the deeper layers of the skin during RF needling leads to the formation of new collagen and elastin. The tissue is tightened in depth without unnecessarily straining the surface of the skin.
LaseMD
LaseMD is a gentle laser treatment in which individually tailored cosmeceuticals are injected into the skin. Various indications such as hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles and unwanted pigmentation can be improved to a certain extent.
Laser treatments
The laser treatment leads to a contraction of the connective tissue fibers and thus to a slight lifting effect. At the same time, the formation of new collagen and elastin fibers in the skin is stimulated and regenerative biological processes are set in motion, leading to skin rejuvenation.
Conclusion
- Pronounced sagging of the skin and tissue only sets in during the ageing process from around the age of 40 or even later.
- As a rule, a facelift should not be considered before the age of 40 to 50.
- We have a range of minimally invasive treatment methods available for younger patients. The most popular include injections with fillers and botulinum toxin
- The individual measures should always be part of a complete treatment concept in which minimally invasive measures can be combined with surgical measures, depending on the findings and the patient’s wishes.
